GemEx Systems Inc, the Global Leader in diamond Brilliance, Fire and Sparkle certification, will provide a presentation and open discussion regarding their new technology that engraves the surface of a diamond.

In 1999, De Beers launched a diamond program called the Millennium diamond; featuring diamonds with a invisible engraving on the table.  The millennium diamond program evolved into the marketing program called the ForeverMark diamond which also uses a similar invisible mark on the table.

GemEx obtained the patent to use Focused Ion Beam technology for engraving diamonds, which is crossed licensed with the DeBeers patent.  This Ion Beam technology is capable of engraving logos, pictures, numerical information or any image on the surface of a diamond or gemstone.  This mark can be as little as 20 nanometers deep which is less than 1/200 of a human hair.  The size of the mark can be as large as <metricconverter productid="1 millimeter" w:st="on">1 millimeter</metricconverter> round or as small as 10 micrometers.

GemEx has also developed proprietary viewer technology that allows an individual to view the mark without any complicated electronic technology.  The viewer technology makes the engraving appear holographic and thus is called the Holographic Diamond Viewer and is available in an in-store unit and a take home version.

This mark has been verified by HRD Antwerp to have no effect on the grading of the stone, as is the case with the ForeverMark.  The engraving is nearly impossible to see with a loupe.

This technology can be used for branding, personalizing and even for covertly marking diamonds.  It is possible to engrave a mark so small it can only be seen with an electron microscope.

GemEx will be explaining the technology, showing examples, and discussing applications and uses to expand and enhance diamond sales for the Antwerp market.  Participants will be able to examine engraved diamonds and use the latest Holographic Diamond Viewer.
